Incipient sliding of adhesive contacts

چکیده
Abstract A model is proposed herein to investigate the incipient sliding of contacts in presence both friction and adhesion, where interfacial response modeled based on traction-separation laws. Maugis-like parameter defined characterize tangential direction. Subsequently, used contact between a smooth cylinder flat body, adhesion-friction interactions are strong. range behaviors observed when displacement imposed: When low, pressure exhibits relatively constant profile; it high, spike at edge contact. This difference caused by significant interface compliance former case, which limits amount slip. The results for mid-range values can qualitatively replicate various experiments performed using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) balls.

Sliding mode estimation schemes for incipient sensor faults
This paper proposes a new method for the analysis and design of sliding mode observers for sensor fault reconstruction. The proposed scheme addresses one of the restrictions inherent in other sliding mode estimation approaches for sensor faults in the literature (which effectively require the open-loop system to be stable). For open-loop unstable systems, examples can be found, for certain comb...
متن کاملAbout contacts of adhesive, elasto-plastic, frictional powders
Granular materials can be studied in a split-bottom ring shear cell geometry, where they show wide shear bands under slow, quasi-static, large deformation. The contact models are at the basis of their interesting collective behavior and flow-rheology as well the core ingredient for the discrete element method (DEM). The contact mechanics used involves elasto-plastic, viscous, frictional, and to...
متن کاملRapid assembly of functional presynaptic boutons triggered by adhesive contacts.
CNS synapse assembly typically follows after stable contacts between "appropriate" axonal and dendritic membranes are made. We show that presynaptic boutons selectively form de novo following neuronal fiber adhesion to beads coated with poly-d-lysine (PDL), an artificial cationic polypeptide. As demonstrated by atomic force and live confocal microscopy, functional presynaptic boutons self-assem...
متن کاملDynamics of/ 1 Integrin-mediated Adhesive Contacts in Motile Fibroblasts
Motile chick skeletal fibroblasts adhere to a laminin substrate by means of clustered/3~ integrins. These integfin "macroaggregates" are similar to classic focal contacts but do not appear dark under interference-reflection microscopy. They contain ~5 integrin and are associated with extracellular fibronectin. To study their behavior during cell movement, time-lapse, low-light video microscopy ...
